Summer can be a huge nightmare if you are someone who always ends up paying too much for their heating bills. If you are a homeowner then heating can bring a lot of good news and bad news, the good news being that you get to have a cozy and warm winter, the bad news is that your heating bills are always on the rise. Here are some handy tips to keep in mind when you get your next heating unit –
Lower the thermostat –
No matter which heating unit you have a furnace or a broiler, make sure that you lower the temperature. There is a possibility that you will end up saving 3% to 5% of your heating bills on a regular basis. It makes sense, because nobody really needs piping hot water all the time, mostly we just wait for the water to cool down a bit, or combine it with room temperature water.
Turning the water heater down –
Water heaters are a major cause for increasing your heating bills. Avoid using hot water as much as you can, I know this is difficult especially in the winter months; however, reduce it as much as you can. And you will find that you are actually saving a lot on your heating bills. You can see the difference yourself, every single month. Make sure you keep track of the bill every month so that you can see the difference yourself.
Understanding your central heating –
Every house has a different central heating system; it is essential to understand this, so that you know which equipment to buy, and which will be most effective. Since there are so many different types of heating equipment out there in the market, it is good to know which will work out the best for your house.
Calling professional heating services –
No matter where you reside in, it is important to have a good plumber with you so that he can help you out when you need him. If you are residing in the Brooklyn area, then you can be sure that you will have some great plumbers at your disposal. Whatever doubts you have, you can call them and ask them, most plumbers will give heating advice for free.
Keep all the above points in mind, and you can see the difference yourself, as you will be sure that on a monthly basis you are going to save a lot. Using electricity and spending energy wisely is something that all of us should follow.

When I was living in Europe I learned a lot how to save energy during the winter. You can just simply just turn off the heat at night and make sure to keep all the windows shut. Socks are also a great invention. http://www.auroraplumbing.com/Showroom.html
ReplyDeleteThis past winter I was living in a new place and it was always cold, especially in our mudroom. I think the mudroom itself isn't insulated. Would better insulation also help keep heating costs down?

My wife and I are poor college students and we try to do everything we can to keep our gas bill down every month. One we do and as you mentioned, is lower our thermostat by a couple of degrees. That has helped with the bill quite a bit. Luckily enough, we have a couple skylights built into our place and sunny days actually help heat our house up naturally.

What a great post! I think everyone is trying to cut down on costs. This post makes that so much easier. http://www.dirosatoplg-htg.com/Residential_Plumbing_Norristown_PA.html
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips! It's summer now, but I was a little scandalized by how high my heating bill was last winter. I'm going to do all I can to get it down for the coming months. I think one of my main problems is in the piping.
ReplyDeleteJenn | http://www.zapitdrains.com/
That last point you made is a really important one. I don't think people realize how much money they can save by hiring a heating contractor to come and check the efficiency of their system. They are the pros, so they can spot ways to make your heating more efficient and save you money every month on your bill.

There are some different heating companies around where I live. I think it would be better if they just formed one massive heating company. I don't understand why there has to be multiple heating companies. http://crtmechanical.com/
ReplyDeleteI don't know why something as easy as unclogging a sink could be so hard. I'm having this issue and I don't think I will be able to do it myself. I don't own the right tools, and I would probably ruin it by doing it myself. http://www.murphyplumbing.com.au
ReplyDeleteI agree that if you want to save money this winter on heating, then you should understand how your central heating system works. I like to be warm but I can live with wearing a coat and saving money on my heating bill. Thanks for the tips.

This is great information. I really want to save up as much as I can in every way. What I need to work the most on is trying to understand my central heating system. I have no clue how it all works. I guess it is never too late to learn and understand how it works. http://www.allzoneac.com

This will come in handy once winter comes around. We want to make sure our heater is in mint condition since it's always super cold here in the winter. Lowering the thermostat should not only improve the longevity of our unit, but also save on utility costs. http://www.aabsoluteplumbing.com/service-bergen-county.nxg
ReplyDeleteSome great ideas here, turning down your thermostat to 68 degrees is a really good way to save. For every degree you lower your heat in the 60-degree to 70-degree range, you'll save up to 5 percent on heating costs. If you're looking to be really frugal, be a bit more thoughtful and layer up with warm clothing like jumpers and thick socks before you think to switch the heating on. http://www.heywoodheating.co.uk/
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting
